Wayne County (PA) Fair reminder to horsemen

by Jeff Firmstone, Race Secretary, Wayne County (PA) Fair

Honesdale, PA — Horsemen are reminded that along with being a regular stop on the Pennsylvania Fair Circuit offering the standard Pa Fair Sire Stakes and Quaker State early closer events for 2- and 3-year-olds, the historic Honesdale oval will also host free for all pace and free for all trot overnight events.

The Wayne County Fair’s race meet kicks off with two days of PA Fair Sire Stakes with post time of 11 a.m. on Sunday (Aug. 7) and 2 p.m. on Monday (Aug. 8).

The Wayne County Fair is one of only two Pennsylvania Fairs that continue to offer overnight events. At the Honesdale event each free for all event will offer a total purse of $2,000 added. The free for all pace will take place as part of the Wednesday (Aug. 10) card that includes 3-year-old Sire and Quaker stakes action, post time 4 p.m., and the free for all trot will take place on the Thursday (Aug. 11) card, post time 1 p.m., the final racing day that will also include 2-year-old Sire and Quaker stakes.

The entry box closes Saturday (Aug. 6) at 10 a.m. for Sunday and Monday racing and on Tuesday (Aug. 9) at 10 a.m. for Wednesday and Thursday racing. USTA online entries are accepted. All Pennsylvania County Fair racing rules are enforced. For a copy of the fair guide go to this link.

The Wayne County Fair offers the most up to date facilities on the Pennsylvania Fair Circuit with more than 75 modern stalls, and a racing surface prepared with a Larcom & Mitchell track conditioner, all part of a classic county fair setting. The fair is located in Honesdale, Pa., conveniently positioned within two hours of many eastern racetracks and training centers.
