Anderson, IN — Picking up right where he left off in 2025, On To Norway driven by John De Long for trainer Ron Burke returns to familiar territory making it 24 straight wins with his first of 2026 in the $22,000 Open Trot at Hoosier on Saturday (May 2).
Trotting from his assigned post five, On To Norway settled into the fourth position as Ponda Jet got to the rail first meeting the first quarter in a quick 26.2. Ponda Jet led the six-horse field single file into the backstretch headwind, closely followed by his stablemate Operator (Marcus Miller) then Famous Father (Luke Plano) sitting second and third respectively.
The field stayed tight and unchanged to the halfway point led by Ponda Jet in 57.0. After the halfway mark, On To Norway was right-lined by De Long and began to advance first-over on the outside. Moving to the three-quarters in 1.27.2, Ponda Jet’s lead started to dwindle as On To Norway continued first-over to the leader’s wheel.
Breezing past the Ponda Jet, On To Norway found the open freeway down the stretch. Looking to contend late, Operator ripped off the cones attempting to catch On To Norway. Leaving a mountain to climb for the field behind him, On To Norway rode the wind with a :25.4 blitz to the wire to get home a length clear in 1:53.2 Operator cashed in for second while Ponda Jet settled for third.
