World champion Beach Cowgirl returns with 1:52.3 qualifier

Chester, PA — Beach Cowgirl, a 3-year-old daughter of Captaintreacherous, won her Tuesday morning (May 23) qualifier in 1:52.3 at Harrah’s Philadelphia.

Beach Cowgirl was undefeated in four starts at 2 and won her final 2022 start, her Pennsylvania Sire Stakes championship, in a world record 1:50, also at Harrah’s Philadelphia.

Joe Bongiorno, driving the fast filly for trainer/sister Jenn and the ownership of Joseph Di Scala Jr., Zippett Racing Stable, Scarlett Stables and JAF Racing, hustled her right to the top and set fractions of :29.2, :58.1, and 1:26, then rambled home in :26.3 to defeat her contemporary Earthwindfire, a winner of $321.484 and the Kentuckiana Stallion Management Stake at 2, by 2-1/2 lengths; that pair were 44 lengths ahead of the third horse.

It will be interesting to see how Beach Cowgirl fares at three after her faultless form at 2. The first 2023 preliminary for her PA Sire Stakes group is June 4 at Philly.

Video from Tuesday’s Philly qualifiers can be seen at the PHHA’s website, www.phha.org. Beach Cowgirl was in race three. Remember that drivers are not necessarily wearing their racing colors in the qualifiers.
