Fryeburg, ME – Ziggy Sky continues to take full advantage of unique circumstances this fall, extending his career well into his 15-year-old season, and remaining one of the most ferocious forces to be found in his classes along Maine’s historic fairground circuit.

Bred in the purple, the veteran son of Stonebridge Regal, out of the prolific Camluck mare, Bubeleh, won for the 61st time in his career on Tuesday (Oct. 6) at Fryeburg Fair, in harness to driver Joey Mosher, while wearing the dazzling red and green colors of the Marianna Monaco stable.
Striking the pike route into 14-mile-per-hour headwinds, Ziggy Sky discouraged the competition while cutting even fractions over the chilly Fryeburg course, reaching the half in an effortless :59.2, and maintaining at least a 1-1/4 length advantage throughout the mile before coasting home to the 1:59 score.
Owned by Debra Vermette, the win marked the third victory lap of the season for the ageless warrior whose next engagement will be in the $9,000 final of the Progressive Claiming Series, a late closing event, which concludes on Saturday (Oct. 10) at Fryeburg.
The win was one of two on the afternoon for driver Joey Mosher, who earlier expertly controlled the playing field with Gemstone Pillar (2:03.2, $36.20), ultimately surviving a crowded rush to the wire to post one of the largest mutuel returns of the afternoon.
Racing resumes on Wednesday (Oct. 7) at Fryeburg with a 12-race wagering program set to commence at 1:30 p.m. (EDT). Maine Sire Stakes racing will proceed on the main card as twin $17,000+ splits of sophomore pacing fillies will frolic at Fryeburg at 12:30 p.m., in their final elimination leg of the season in anticipation of the rich $400,000+ Maine Sire Stakes finals to be held on Oct. 17 at Bangor Raceway.
