In the matter of a positive that never should have been called and following subsequent social media outcry, the Horseracing Integrity and Welfare Unit (HIWU), the enforcement arm of the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority (HISA), has dropped charges against Thoroughbred trainer Jeffrey Englehart.

Up-and-comers impress at Pocono
The temperature rose to the mid-50s on Monday afternoon (Feb. 26) at Pocono Downs at Mohegan Pennsylvania after hovering near freezing during the first three days of the meet, with the fastest trot and pace of the year registered, and both outside of the featured events. Simon Allard won both of those $15,000 contests, one for each gait.
Kash was king at Batavia Monday
The horses lined up for the final time this winter at Batavia Downs on Monday (Feb. 26) and the card featured a $12,000 conditioned pace that was won by Ball Diamond (Keith Kash Jr.), who claimed her second win of the year.

A ‘new look’ Buffalo Raceway opens Saturday
When Buffalo Raceway swings open its gate to begin the 55-day live harness racing meet on Saturday (March 2) starting at 6 p.m., fans on and off track will see a ‘new look’ at how the races are presented. Buffalo Raceway’s broadcasts will now be in high definition and will also have new graphics as well to complement the off-track and in-house feeds.
Hussard du Landret is impressive winner in French marathon
The Prix de Paris, raced Sunday afternoon (Feb. 25) at Vincennes, is a race over an extended distance of 4,150 meters or approximately 2-5/8th miles and was won in impressive style by the 7-year-old Hussard du Landret with Yoann Lebourgeois in the bike.
Confederate is 2023 Horse of the Year
Harness racing’s richest and fastest performer last season, Confederate, added another honor to his résumé Sunday (Feb. 25) when he was named the 2023 Horse of the Year to conclude the U.S. Harness Writers Association’s Dan Patch Awards banquet, presented by Caesars Entertainment, before a crowd of 300 at Rosen Centre.
