Columbus, OH – On Saturday (May 2), horse racing history was made when Golden Tempo won the Kentucky Derby for Cherie Devaux, making her the first female trainer to win the Run for the Roses in the 152nd edition of the race.

Devaux, originally from Saratoga Springs, N.Y., is from a horse racing family.
According to her trainer profile from Keeneland, “Cherie is from the Saratoga Springs, New York, area, and her family has been involved in Standardbred racing. Her brother Jimmy has won more than 5,000 races as a driver/trainer. (Note: Devaux has 7,927 career driving wins.)
“Cherie is married to Central Kentucky-based bloodstock agent David Ingordo. Her younger sister Adrianne began training in September 2024. Adrianne worked for Cherie for four years.”
She had some of her family with her to celebrate the victory in the winner’s circle at Churchill Downs.

“After the race, DeVaux celebrated with her husband, sister, daughter and nephew by her side shedding plenty of tears of joy,” reported Yahoo Sports.
But her brother Jimmy wasn’t there with her. He was back home at Saratoga Raceway driving in nine races there on Saturday.
The U.S. Trotting Association would like to congratulate Cherie, Jimmy and the entire Devaux family on their historic win.
