American Saddlebred World Championship Horse Show begins Aug. 17

Louisville, KY — The film world has the Oscars; musicians have the Grammys; the theatre its Tonys; and the Saddlebred industry the World’s Championship Horse Show. With eight consecutive days and nights of pageantry and exhilarating competition for the multitude of owners, trainers, riders, handlers, spectators — and of course the most spectacular horses in the world — the show is the ultimate celebration of the glory and grandeur of the Saddlebred.

The 2019 World’s Championship Horse Show, its 117th annual presentation, begins Saturday (Aug. 17) and continues for eight exciting days through Saturday (Aug. 24).

This eagerly awaited and prestigious event is held in conjunction with the Kentucky State Fair and crowns world champion Saddlebreds in different divisions. The show attracts spectators and competitors from across the world and includes more than 2,000 horses competing for more than $1 million in awards determined by a panel of equestrian professionals.

Horses compete in divisions including Three-Gaited, Five-Gaited, Fine Harness, Saddlebred Pleasure, Saddle Seat Equitation, Hackney/Harness Ponies, Roadster, In-Hand, and American Saddlebred.

Each division includes several classes for amateurs, ladies, amateur ladies, and junior exhibitors, as well as younger horses and ponies. Horses or riders who win earn the title of world’s champion. A second place finish is given the title of reserve world’s champion. Horses may also earn the world’s grand championship or world’s championship of champions title.
