USTA invites broadcast funding requests from tracks and horsemen
The U. S. Trotting Association invites member racetracks and horsemen’s organizations to apply for broadcast funding that will be made available in the Association’s 2023 budget. Funds are intended for the use of television, radio, or online production of harness racing events or special interest stories and telecasts.

USTA Board of Directors vote to amend rule on Artificial Insemination in special meeting
In a special meeting of its board on Wednesday, the U.S. Trotting Association’s directors voted to amend the USTA rule on Artificial Insemination. The existing Rule 26.05 Artificial Insemination was changed to allow frozen semen to be used in the breeding season, or year, immediately following castration or death of the stallion. The rule became effective immediately.
Rep. Dan Daley bill seeks to revive Florida harness racing industry
Florida Rep. Dan Daley from northwest Broward county has filed a bill that would allow entities in the state that have permits to conduct any other types of wagering to acquire a permit for harness racing.
HIWU announces March 27 as anticipated enforcement date for HISA medication program
In an announcement on Monday (Jan. 30), the Horseracing Integrity & Welfare Unit announced that it is planning for a March 27 starting date for their enforcement of HISA’s drug and medication program.
FTC publishes resubmitted HISA Anti-Doping and Medication Control Rules
According to a press release from the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority, “The Federal Trade Commission has published the resubmitted Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority Anti-Doping and Medication Control rules to the Federal Register, initiating a 14-day public comment period. The FTC now has 60 days to approve or deny the proposed rules.”
