The $2.5 million (est.) Massachusetts Sire Stakes will kick off its 2023 season at Plainridge Park on Monday (Sept. 25). The resident mare program that allows foals to have dual eligibility with stake programs in other states, has grown exponentially with the support of the Massachusetts Race Horse Development Fund and has produced the best performing Standardbreds ever bred in the commonwealth over the long and storied history of the sport there.

Iron Sharpens Iron posted another dominating performance at Running Aces on Sunday night (Sept. 10) to register his seventh win of the season in the $22,000 Minnesota-sired sophomore trot.

It’s often said that the third time is the charm. More often than not that idiom has been proven wrong. However, in the case of the belated Illinois State Fair Colt Stakes, that phase will be spot-on Sunday evening (Sept. 10).

With a return to the level where he was dominant earlier this year, Voukefalas got to be the bully of the playground again Saturday night (Sept. 9) at The Meadowlands, taking one of two $150,000 New Jersey Classic finals for 3-year-olds on the pace.

The Ohio Sires Stakes season for pacers concluded on Saturday night (Sept. 9) at Eldorado Scioto Downs with four $300,000 Scarlet Championships, and 2-year-old colt Clever Cody was the only favorite to win as Daisy’s Star (30-1), Tarapasta (87-1) and Wicked Character (10-1) lit up the toteboard in the other events.

Sugar Instead, Rose Run Yolanda, Grand Revival and Tennessee Tom were crowned as the best in the trotting divisions of the Ohio Sires Stakes in 2023 after winning their respective $300,000 Scarlet Championships on Saturday night (Sept. 9) at Eldorado Scioto Downs.

With four MADC races on tap Saturday night (Sept. 9), these events were highly contested and competitive.
