Maine’s top 3-year-old pacing filly, Gowestyounggrace, picked up her eighth consecutive victory on Monday (Sept. 16) at Farmington when the 183rd annual Farmington Fair welcomed the Maine Sire Stakes for a full week of harness racing. 

The first IPad hit the market in the year 2010, Avatar was the number one box office hit, Adele earned song of the year honors with Rolling In The Deep, Downton Abbey premiered on PBS, and Prince William and Kate Middleton announced their royal engagement. 

The male pacer Ante Up Hanover and the female trotter Little Town Road, both 2023 Pennsylvania Fair Sire Stakes Championship race winners, were the speed stars during the meeting on Sunday (Sept. 15) and Monday (Sept. 16) at Gratz in east-central Pennsylvania, the next-to-last stop on the circuit this year. They go at Bloomsburg on Friday (Sept. 20) and Saturday (Sept. 21) at 11 a.m.

Harness racing has its share of stars patrolling the major venues of our sport, and they, rightfully so, garner the vast majority of the headlines when the daily press releases are disseminated. But the sport depends upon the workaday racehorse, who makes his 30 starts per year, and night after night fills the undercards upon which the superstars shine. 

Sophomore trotters kicked off the fifth leg of the Buckeye Stallion Series on Sunday (Sept. 15) at the Delaware County Fair. Four $20,000 divisions, two for fillies and two for colts, went behind the gate.

Steve Oldford, picking up a catch-drive in the Tim Fouts Memorial at the Delaware, Ohio Fairgrounds, took advantage of the opportunity and won this yearly memorial event with JK’s Champ (IK Endofanera), covering the mile in 1:54.4.

The Luther brothers – owner Greg Luther and trainer Todd Luther – and driver Austin Hanners swept the $133,600 (div.) Ohio Breeders Championship for two-year-old filly pacers on Sunday (Sept. 15) at the Delaware County (OH) Fair.

Two $66,800 divisions of the Ohio Breeders Championship (OBC) for two-year-old filly pacers will feature the opening day (September 15) of the five-day Delaware County Fair meet.

The Pennsylvania Fair Harness Racing Circuit will have its final two stops of the 2024 season this week: racing will take place on Sunday and Monday at noon at the Gratz (PA) Fairgrounds, and then the season closes at the Bloomsburg Fairgrounds on Friday and Saturday (September 20-21), with an 11 a.m. card scheduled at Bloomsburg both days.
