Cult Icon repels trio of challengers, wins Meadows feature

Washington, PA — Cult Icon cut a slowish first half, then was all-out to hold off a trio of challengers late and capture Tuesday’s (Dec. 27) feature at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows, a $12,100 conditioned pace for fillies and mares.

Dave Palone gave Cult Icon a comfortable 1:00.2 front half on the point, but in deep stretch, she was threatened by Arnie’s Angel and Day To Party outside and Irish Daydream in the Lightning Lane. The 7-year-old daughter of Bettor’s Delight-Yankee Icon dug in and scored in 1:57 over a good surface, a head better than Arnie’s Angel, with Irish Daydream third.

Under siege in the stretch, Cult Icon narrowly held her ground to win Tuesday’s featured distaff pace at The Meadows. Chris Gooden photo.

Dirk Simpson trains Cult Icon, who extended her career bankroll to $387,013, for Trent Stohler Stable Inc. and Tim Graber.

Brady Brown, Ridge Warren and Brian Zendt joined Simpson with a pair of victories on the 13-race card.

Live racing at The Meadows continues Wednesday (Dec. 28), when the 13-race program features a $1,589.94 carryover in the final-race Jackpot Super Hi-5. First post is 12:45 p.m.
