Dayton Derbies supplement deadline is approaching

Dayton, OH — Owners and trainers of outstanding older horses are advised that there is an Aug. 15 deadline to make “catch-up” supplemental nominations to the four $250,000 Dayton Derbies to be raced on Saturday (Oct. 1) at Hollywood Dayton Raceway.

A total of 91 horses are currently nominated and this is the final opportunity to get on those lists as there is no provision in the conditions for race time supplements.

At present, there are 34 horses nominated to the Dayton Derby for male pacers, 28 on the male trotters list, 23 eligible to the mares pace, but just six nominated to the newly created mares trot.

Conditions call for a minimum of seven entrants for each race, so Dayton officials are hopeful that the connections of exceptional older female trotters will give serious consideration to this opportunity.

The nomination fee is $10,000 and the purses are guaranteed at a minimum of $250,000.

The Oct. 1 program has been dubbed Ohio Derby Super Night and will include eight $300,000 Ohio Sires Stakes championship finals for the best Buckeye-bred juveniles. The $3.4 million in total purses that evening will make it the richest night of racing (harness or Thoroughbred) in Ohio history.

Inquiries can be directed via email to Director of Racing Jason Bluhm at jason.bluhm@pngaming.com or Race Secretary Gregg Keidel at greggkeidel@yahoo.com.

Supplemental nominations must be postmarked by Aug. 15 and sent to the Hambletonian Society, 109 S. Main St., East Windsor, NJ 08512.
