Harrington, DE — The Delaware Valley chapter of the United States Harness Writers’ Association held its annual meeting Wednesday (Nov. 19) at Harrington Raceway and announced a new award for caretakers/grooms.
Nominations are now being accepted for the inaugural Delaware Valley USHWA Caretaker of the Year award. The award, sponsored by the DE Valley Chapter USHWA, is designed to recognize a caretaker/groom who works primarily in Delaware, Maryland, or Virginia for a trainer in good standing. He/she must have a current Delaware, Maryland or Virginia groom’s license and can not currently be training horses.
To nominate a caretaker/groom for this award, trainers need to write a detailed letter (300 words or less) explaining why a caretaker/groom from your stable deserves to be Caretaker of the Year. Please include the groom’s name, address, and phone number, along with your name, address, and phone number.
Caretakers/grooms are often the unsung heroes of the sport and this award recognizes their dedication.
The deadline for nominations is Dec. 30, 2020. All entries detailing why nominees are deserving of the 2020 USHWA DV Caretaker of the Year Award should be emailed to devalleyushwa@gmail.com. The winner will receive a $200 award courtesy of the Delaware Valley Chapter of USHWA.
