Feeling Sweet posts mild upset in Dover distaff

Dover, DE — Feeling Sweet brushed to the top and coasted to a 5-1 upset in Wednesday’s (March 15) $25,000 Mares Open Pace at Bally’s Dover.

Three mares battled for the early lead: Shield Maiden protected the rail; Dont Fence Me In, the 2-5 favorite, was parked in the two-path; and Feeling Sweet was three-wide passing the quarter in :27. As the dust settled, Dont Fence Me In took the lead away from Shield Maiden, but Feeling Sweet (driven by Michael Cole) then cleared and led the field through a :54.4 half.

Dewitt For Josie immediately advanced to apply first-over pressure to Feeling Sweet past the half and Divine Deo followed second-over cover. Feeling Sweet maintained a 1-3/4-length advantage past the three-quarters in 1:23 and extended it to 4-1/4 lengths at the end of a 1:52 mile.
