Columbus, OH — Fillies took over the Friday (July 31) card at Eldorado Scioto Downs with Ohio State Fair events for 3-year-old trotters and pacers, 2-year-old pacers, and older mares of both gaits taking place. Purses for the nine events for Ohio-sired fillies and mares totaled $593,100.
Ohio First Lady Pace – 3-Year-Old Pacing Fillies
Rodeo Dancer and driver Brett Miller got the fastest win of the three Ohio First Lady Pace divisions with a 1:50.3 victory in her $50,500 split.
Sassy By The Sea (Tyler Smith) got the first call going to the :27 opening quarter, but Miller quickly had Rodeo Dancer on the move. After leading through :55.3 and 1:23.2 fractions, Rodeo Dancer held off a three-wide drive from Seaside Shuffle (Chris Page) to win by a nose; Sassy By The Sea was third.
Rodeo Dancer, by Rodeo Romeo out of the Somebeachsomewhere mare Parts Unknown, was bred and is owned by Oompa’s Farm and Robert Mondillo. The filly now has six wins in nine seasonal starts and is seven-for-16 lifetime with $174,200 in earnings.
Ron Burke trainees took the other two divisions.
Seaside Charm and Ronnie Wrenn Jr. won their $51,200 division in 1:51.
Bad Girl Up (David Miller) took the field to the :26.4 opening quarter while Seaside Charm sat second. Page had Laude Da on the move from third to make the front towards the :55.4 half. On the way to the 1:22.2 three-quarters, Marvin Luna had Estuary head-to-head with Laude Da and made the front while continuous movement had Seaside Charm shuffled to sixth. Posting a :27.2 last quarter, Seaside Charm won by a neck over Laude Da; She’s Lit (Brett Miller) was third.
Seaside Charm, by Downbytheseaside out of the Bettor’s Delight mare Summer Charm, was bred by Brookside Stables and Amos Lengacher. Owned by Thomas and Scott Dillon, Seaside Charm now has six wins in 15 lifetime starts with $153,910 in earnings.
The final $50,500 division went to Shacarri in 1:51.4.
Getting away third while Vanna By The River (Wrenn) made the front towards the :27.2 opening quarter, Page had Shacarri make her move to the lead towards the :56.2 half and 1:24.3 three-quarters. Fending off the pocket-sitting Vanna By The River, Shacarri won by three-quarters of a length; Odds On Dividend (Luke Hanners) was third.
Shacarri, by Summa Cum Laude out of the Rockin Image mare Rockin Racer, is owned by breeders Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi and Phil Collura, along with Zippett Racing Stable. A winner of $299,961, Shacarri now has six wins in 19 lifetime starts.
State Fair Managers Pace – 2-Year-Old Pacing Fillies
Tempting Flames won the faster of the two divisions when she took her $81,200 split of the State Fair Managers Pace for 2-year-old pacing fillies, winning convincingly in 1:52 for David Miller.
Starting from the second tier, Miller opted to follow Real Classy (Page) from post 5. After being parked through the :27.4 opening quarter, Tempting Flames led every split, tripping the beams in :56.2 and 1:24.3. Real Classy got the pocket trip to finish second by a length; Splendid Station (Justin Irvine) came up the inside to finish third.
Tempting Flames is trained by Michael Hitchcock for William Hartt. By Catch The Fire out of the McArdle mare Hotshot Temptress, Tempting Flames was a $52,000 Ohio Selected Yearling Sale purchase from Ivy Holdings. It was the second win in four starts for the filly, who now has earned $115,600.
Cleveland Darby (Page) took her $80,500 division in 1:53.1.
Rose Run Charlie (Marvin Luna) left sharply off the gate from post 6 and led the field to the :27.4 opening quarter. Cleveland Darby quickly pulled the pocket and led the field through fractions of :57 and 1:25.3 before winning by 2 lengths over Rose Run Charlie; Well Intentioned (David Miller) was third.
Cleveland Darby, by Downbytheseaside out of the McArdle mare Loreenas Ruffian, was bred by Carl Howard. Now owned by Burke Racing, Weaver Bruscemi, R A S Racing and Larry Karr, the Ron Burke trainee has two wins in four starts and has earned $77,250.
Pride of Ohio Trot – 3-Year-Old Trotting Fillies
Mooter Tooter (Page) came charging down the lane to take her $73,700 division of the Pride of Ohio Trot in 1:53.4.
Faster Horses (David Miller) took the early lead and led through fractions of :27.3, :57.1 and 1:25.1. Charlotte Elise (Tyler Smith) came first-up and briefly took the lead in the stretch, but Mooter Tooter posted a :27.4 last quarter to get up for a three-quarter-length win over Charlotte Elise; Rose Run Brooke (Wrenn) was third.
Mooter Tooter, by Long Tom out of the Andover Hall mare Moots, was a $28,000 Ohio Selected Yearling Sale purchase from breeders Wayne Weaver. Owned by Burke Racing, Knox Services, Beasty and R A S Racing, the Ron Burke trainee now has four wins in 10 seasonal starts with $121,700 in lifetime earnings.
The other $73,000 split went to Godusa in 1:53.2.
Joyofmylife AS (Tony Hall) took the early lead towards the :27.3 opening quarter, but Godusa (David Miller) was right on her wheel, taking over and leading through the :57.1 half and 1:25.1 three-quarters before evading runner-up Joyofmylife AS by 1-1/2 lengths. Chip Shot (Wrenn) finished third.
Godusa is by Ready for Moni out of the Trixton mare Behold The Dream. Trained by Nancy Takter for E Five Racing and John Fielding, Godusa now has four wins in 13 lifetime starts and $156,850 in earnings. Godusa was a $35,000 Harrisburg purchase from breeder Carter Duer.
Aged Ohio State Fair Races
Odds On Chesapeake was a narrow winner in the $67,500 Senator Max H. Davis Ohio State Fair Aged Mare Pace in 1:50.4.
Driving on from post 5, Odds On Chesapeake (Hanners) set fractions of :26.1, :55.2 and 1:23. In a photo for win, the 4-year-old mare by Downbytheseaside out of the Sweet Lou mare Macaroon prevailed by a head over Fearless Ginger (Wrenn); Hey Hey Mama (David Miller) was third. Odds On Chesapeake is owned by Odds On Racing, trained by Virgil Morgan, Jr. and how has $772,935 in lifetime earnings.
The $65,000 Don Millar Ohio State Fair Aged Mare Trot was won by Jurassic Hattie (B. Miller) in 1:52.
Getting the pocket trip, Jurassic Hattie followed Legacy Affair (D. Miller) through fractions of :26.3, :54.4 and 1:23.1 before getting up to win by 1-1/2 lengths; Sugar Instead (Hanners) was third. Trained by Stacey Van Huizen for owner/breeder Jerry Welch, Jurassic Hattie now has 16 wins in 45 starts and $707,219 in lifetime earnings.
The last day of Ohio State Fair racing at Scioto is Saturday (Aug. 1). The 16-race card starts at 5:25 p.m. The evening’s races include Ohio State Fair races for 2-year-old pacers, 3-year-old pacers and 3-year-old trotters, along with aged trotters and aged pacers. The evening festivities also include corgi races, the OHHA’s TV & Tickets give-a-way, bounce house, ‘Bring the Farm to You’ petting zoo, ‘Paint a Horse’ station, ‘Name the Foal’ contest and horseshoe decorating station.
The 91-day 2026 Eldorado Scioto Downs regular season runs through Saturday, Sept. 19. Races will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays through Saturdays starting in August. There will be a special holiday card on Labor Day instead of the Tuesday card that week and no live racing on Friday (Sept. 18) to accommodate horsepeople attending the Ohio Selected Yearling Sale. The track will then reopen for the Breeders Crown, with eliminations held Oct. 16-17 and the finals Oct. 23-24.
