Grand River enters final stretch of 2020 season

Elora, ON — Grand River Raceway heads into the final month of the 2020 race season with plenty of momentum, due to support from wagering from customers throughout North America.

Through the end of August, all-source wagering on Grand River Raceway cards was $9,998,731, an increase of 21% over the same number of dates in 2019. With the total number of races slightly less this year (380 races versus 387 races in 2019), the average handle per race was $26,312.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, most wagering is occurring remotely, as a limited number of guests have only been permitted at the racetrack as of July 27.

Ten racing dates remain on the 2020 calendar. Note that, as racing continues Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights, there is no racing on Labor Day (Sept. 7). The Ontario Sires Stakes Gold Series for 2-year-old pacing fillies is this coming Friday (Sept. 4). On Sept. 18, the Prospect Series for 3-year-old pacing colts will be on track. The Prospect Series finals for all 8 divisions will be on closing night, Sept. 25.

Qualifying races will move to Wednesdays at 2 p.m. beginning Sept. 2.

Grand River Raceway will also be hosting a live stream of the Kentucky Derby on Saturday (Sept. 5). The general public can register for tarmac access for this day at this link.

Grand River Raceway is currently allowing 100 guests on the tarmac during live races. Attendees are still required to follow strict physical distancing requirements. The grandstand and main building remain closed. Pre-registration is required via Eventbrite, and registration links can be found at the Grand River Raceway website.
