GSY weekend recap from the Meadowlands

East Rutherford, NJ — The GSY races took place on the Friday night (July 1) card at The Meadowlands.

In the seventh race, there was only one horse who left hard from the gate. That was Ferdinand A (James Slendorn) who set moderate fractions of :28.1 and :58 to the half and never had an anxious moment after that.

There was a mid-race move by Scrappin Gold (Joe Pennacchio) who was followed by Cecil Casanova (Mark Silva), but they could never get to Slendorn. In the end, he went a good second half to the mile and paced through the wire to win in 1:53.3. Pennacchio held second while Rock To Glory (Bruno Chiodo) rounded out the trifecta.

The 9-year-old gelding is owned by Slendorn, along with trainer Kelvin Harrison.

In the nightcap, ten pacers went to post and It’s Rigged (Dave Yarock) found himself on the lead to the quarter pole but had to work for it in a fast :26.3. He was able to slow down the half to :55, but in the stretch he drifted and tired which allowed the stalkers to overtake this longtime leader.

In the end, it was the post time favorite, Mv Ok Palacio Br (Rob Harmon) who sat third and rode the rail to victory in a mile timed in 1:53. Elrama N (Terry Di Cicco) finished second, a nose ahead of Svengali (Mark Silva).

The 6-year-old is owned by Harmon Racing Stable and is trained by Harmon as well.

The GSY series should be back after a mini break sometime in September. Thank you to all the fans, trainers, owners, and drivers who support these weekly races at the Meadowlands.
