Vernon, NY — Dryden Hanover and driver Brad Irvine charged late to grab Friday’s (May 30) featured $7,500 trot at Vernon Downs.
Night Star (Steeven Genois) got by Discus Hanover (Leon Bailey) just before hitting the quarter first in :26.4. He used a :29.2 second quarter to be first to the half in :56.1. Emotions Riches (Chris Long) took over going around the final turn and was first to three-quarters in1:25.1.
As they reached the stretch, second-place finisher Fringed (Dan Daley) and third-place finisher Emotions Riches were slugging it out. Dryden Hanover ($50.50) came flying three-wide in deep stretch like he was shot out of a cannon. He got by just before hitting the wire in a lifetime best of 1:54.4.
Dryden Hanover is a 4-year-old gelding by Walner owned by Mary Irvine and trainer Laura Shock. It was his eighth win this season. He now has 11 career victories.
Brad Irvine, Jimmy Whittemore, John MacDonald and Frank Affrunti all had driving doubles. Claude Huckabone Jr. had a training and driving double. Laura Shock had a training double.
