Marie Sager, 81, dies

Columbus, OH — Marie Sager, 81, of New Jersey, known to many in the harness racing business as Mom Sager, passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2020, at her home in Florence, NJ.

For those that knew Marie knew that her passion was family, good friends and of course, the horses.  She would tell you on any given day that the “horses always had to come first,” this was her husband, Mel Sager’s, philosophy which has been passed down to the next generation.  She instilled this in her son Eddie Sager and his sister Nieta Steele.  Anyone will tell you that she was one of the hardest working women in the horse business and would do anything for anybody.  She was very proud of her reputation of being known as a hard worker, a nice person, and also being known as “Mom Sager” is a true testament to the life she led. RIP Mom Sager.

Preceded by her loving husband Mel Sager and brother John Botlinger, survived by brother Frank Botlinger, her children Eddie Sager, Nieta, and son in law Steven Steele, grandchildren Taylor and husband Ed Colligan, Stephanie and Danielle Sager, and great-granddaughter Everly Rose, as well as several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Services will be held at Koschek and Porter Funeral Home 1115 Hornberger Ave, Roebling, NJ 08554 on Monday, July 27th, 2020; Calling hours will be between 10 a.m. to noon, services will start at Noon, burial will be at Holy Assumption Cemetery in Roebling, NJ following the services.
