Plainville, MA — After three straight board hits since the end of July, Memorynimagination got back in the win column at Plainridge Park on Thursday (Aug. 27) with an impressive victory in the featured $20,000 upper-level conditioned trot.
Memorynimagination (driven by Matty Athearn) dipped into the pocket behind Kazio DK (Keving Switzer Jr.) from the start and stayed there as the leader cut quarters of :27.2, :57.1 and 1:24.4, without any real threats from behind. Kazio DK was still in command heading into turn three but halfway through, Athearn tipped Memorynimagination, who then methodically worked his way to the lead at the top of the stretch, cleared, and then held off a late-closing Mother’s Moni (Bruce Ranger) by a neck to win in 1:53.3.
It was the ninth win of the year for Memorynimagination ($19), who is owned by Joe Trice and trained by Jimmy Nickerson.
Earlier in the $16,000 conditioned trot, Manhattan Moni (Irvin Crews) got away fifth as Lindy In My Dreams (Ranger) set even fractions of :29 and :29 to the half before being challenged by Dryden Hanover (Mitchell Cushing) in the third quarter that went :28.1. Those two continued to tangle in the last turn while Manhattan Moni was swinging three-deep and making up a lot of ground. At the top of the stretch both Dryden Hanover and Lindy In My Dreams faded, as Manhattan Moni took a lead that he kept by a length ahead of Sister Swell (Brett Beckwith) to win in 1:56.1.
Manhattan Moni ($17.60) is owned by Anthony Napolitano Jr. and trained by his driver, Crews.
Drivers Athearn, Ranger and Switzer Jr. all had two wins apiece.
Racing will resume at Plainridge Park on Monday (Aug. 31) at 4 p.m. (EDT).
