Opening day for Iowa racing Saturday

Humboldt, IA – Iowa harness racing opened the season on Saturday (June 1). After being rained out at What Cheer on May 27, opening day featured a full card of 13 races.

Five consecutive races of 2-year-olds led off the day with many freshmen pacers and trotters experiencing their very first start behind the gate. In Iowa, 2-year-olds start with five across the gate until June 15 to help the young horses gain experience.

In the three divisions of 2-year-old trotters and two divisions of 2-year-old pacers all raced well and has led to the anticipation of an exciting summer as these young horses gain experience.

Next up were five 3-year-old races.

In the first 3-year-old contest (race six), Loussolataire went gate-to-wire in 2:04 flat and finished a neck ahead of Ricky Be Sharp for owner-trainer-driver Steven Renard.

In the 10th race, Max Trax Go N Spi visited the winner’s circle for the first time in his sixth career start with Jim Reese in the sulky.

The feature races on the card were the Free For All Pace and Trot.

The Pace in race 11 belonged to Pretty Boy Swag, taking the win in 2:00.1. Ima Juggernaut returned, as undefeated champ from 2018, with a win in race 12, trotting home in 2:01.4.

The next scheduled race date is June 8 at the Taylor County Fairgrounds in Bedford, Iowa.
