Record and guest race call on Friday at Grand River Raceway

Elora, ON — A new track record and a guest announcer highlighted a jam-packed Fun & Frivolity Friday Night (August 3) preceding the biggest race day of the year at Grand River Raceway.

Robert Sparling, Jr. was the latest reinsman to storm the announcer’s booth in the track’s From Bike To Mic series.

Sparling called race four, in which Bruce Richardson guided Ardmore to her second career win for trainer Paul Taylor. Richard Villeneuve owns the sophomore Jereme’s Jet filly.

In other Friday night happenings, trainer Richard Moreau and driver Trevor Henry broke the record for older trotting horses for the second time this week.

On Wednesday (August 1) Canbec Fridolin replaced the 1:56.2 mark set by Chinnys Wings in 2010 with a three-quarter length score in 1:56. On Friday night, stablemate Partyatyourplace romped to a 14 length victory in 1:55.2. The clocking was a new career mark for the Amigo Hall 4-year-old. This was his first start in the Moreau barn off a claim on July 24 at Georgian Downs. It was his second win this year and fourth lifetime.

Next up for Grand River Raceway is the 22nd annual Industry Day event, a celebration of the harness racing industry. This year’s card includes 11 dashes worth an all-time high of C$714,000 including the C$300,000 Battle of Waterloo. Post time for the August 6 card is 1:30 p.m.
