Scioto Downs weekend roundup

Columbus, OH – Another successful weekend is in the books for Ohio racing.

On Friday (Aug 23), 3-year-old colt pacers went head-to-head in two divisions.

In the first division, Yankee Boots won in 1:51.2 for trainer Steve Carter and paid $2.40. The 3-year-old Yankee-Cruiser gelding improved his seasonal record to six wins with two seconds and two thirds from 13 starts with earnings of $161,810.  For his career, he’s 16 for 28 with lifetime winnings of $284,820.

The second divison went to Bllack Hole ($3.60) in 1:50.4 with driver Tyler Smith in the bike for trainer Clarence Foulk. The sophomore Mr. Apple gelding is now five-for-five in 2019 with $63,298 in earnings, which improved his lifetime record to eight wins and a second in nine starts and $78,099.

Saturday (Aug 24) was Brady Galliers’ night to shine as he made three trips to the winner’s circle, including with two of his own trainees.

His first driver-trainer win came in the fourth race with Hereittiz, a The Panderosa 4-year-old gelding, who completed the mile in 1:51.4 and paid $11.20.

Two races later, Galliers completed his driver-trainer double with Major Trick who outdueled A True Rock down the stretch to win by a neck in 1:51.1.  The 8-year-old Art Major gelding paid $17.80 to win.

Galliers’ third win was for trainer Dan Noble, when he guided Franzo to a front-end win in 1:51.3 in Saturday’s 10th race. The 7-year-old Rockin Image gelding, who was claimed by trainer Adam Short, paid $6.20 to win.

Live racing will continue on Tuesday, (Aug. 27) with a first post time of 2:30 p.m.
