Vernon, NY – Vernon Downs played host to three divisions of the New York Sire Stakes (NYSS) on Monday (May 25).
Longshot Sevenato (Trond Smedshammer) charged late to capture the $58,000 first division for 3-year-old colts & geldings.
The favorite, Chapter Geo J (Jason Bartlett) set the early fractions going :27.2 to the quarter and :56.4 to the half. Read The Room (Ake Svanstedt) was first to make a challenge heading around the final turn. Chapter Geo J had a short lead to three quarters in 1:24.4.
They were five wide as they headed down the stretch. Sevenato was widest and fastest winning in 1:54.0. Who’s Eyes Blues (Tyler Buter) was second. Highway Six (Jeff Gregory) finished third.
Sevenato is a gelding by Chapter Seven. She is owned by Purple Haze Stables and trained by Smedshammer. It was his first career win.
Spencer Hanover (Jason Bartlett) easily takes the $59,100 second division for 3-year-old colts & geldings.
Seven Grand (Ake Svanstedt) went to the quarter first in :29.1. Spencer Hanover ($2.10) made his move first-over heading down the backstretch. He led to half in :58.0 and cruised to three quarters in 1:25.3.
As they reached the stretch the only race left was for the minors. Spencer Hanover flew home to win easily in 1:25.3. Titans Mischief (Matt Kakaley) took home second money. Secured (Dylan Huckabone-Miller) finished third.

Nezuko Kamado S ($3.04) made his bid heading around the final turn. Storybook Love was first to three quarters in 1:27.0.
Second place finisher Storybook Love and Nezuko Kamado S battled all the way down the stretch. Nezuko Kamado S used a late surge to win in 1:54.3. R Ro (Tyler Buter) finished third.
