Monticello, NY – The lone $115,000 division of the New York Sire Stakes for 3-year-old filly trotters at Monticello Raceway on Monday (Aug. 17) was a five-horse field that saw divisional leader Sharp Seven and driver Matt Kakaley score an 8-length gate-to-wire win in 1:56.3.
Sharp Seven was uncontested through the mile, which saw three of the five fillies make breaks, and faced no serious threat. Flying Copper (driven by Jim Taggart Jr.) was second, followed by Jula Hot To Chill (Greg Merton).
A daughter of Chapter Seven-Lookin Sharp, Sharp Seven is owned by Purple Haze Stable and trained by George Ducharme. It was her second NYSS win on the year and pushed her seasonal earnings to $155,575. She paid $3.26 to win.
My Philomene notched her first win of the year in her spilt of the $20,000 Excelsior Series for sophomore filly trotters, winning in 1:57.2 for trainer/driver Trond Smedshammer. The daughter of Chapter Seven-Irish Melody FR is owned by Melady Enterprises. Coya (Dan Daley) was second, followed by Stealing Banksy (Kakaley).
Myths And Legends (Kakaley) took her division in 1:58.1 and is now a five-time Excelsior winner. The Chapter Seven-Steamy Windows filly is owned by S R F Stable and trained by Marcus Melander. Modesty Blasie (Johnathan Ahle) was second, with Saparilla Sal (Daley) rounding out the top three.
The final leg of New York Sire Stakes will be held on Monday, Aug. 24, when 3-year-old male trotters close out the sire stakes season. Post time will be 12:10 p.m. (EDT).
