Farmington, ME — Snowonthepines, Maine’s top 3-year-old pacing filly, picked up her 19th lifetime win on Monday (Sept. 21) at the Farmington Fair by way of a wire-to-wire score in a non-wagering $17,209 Maine Sire Stakes event, and she retained her perfect record in doing so.
Driver Kevin Switzer Jr. posted swift early fractions of :28.1 and :58.4 with Snowonthepines while Ron Cushing and Just Delightful sat in a tight pocket through a 1:29.3 third panel.
Snowonthepines had some pressure from the stalking Just Delightful but prevailed by three parts of a length in 1:58.1. Race Me Ireland (Andy Harrington) was third.
Now 10-for-10 as a sophomore, the daughter of Dude’s The Man was victorious in all nine of her 2-year-old outings, and she now has $179,533 in lifetime earnings for trainer Marc Tardif and owner-breeder Leighton Property.
In the second $17,209 division, 2-5 favorite Dudelookslikeafily and driver Aaron Hall cut moderate :30.2 and 1:01 fractions to the half.
Heading past the half and down the backstretch the final time, Perfectly Lovely was sent first-over by driver Kevin Switzer Jr., and the daughter of Western Maverick reeled in the leader down the stretch and prevailed by a quarter length in 1:59.1. Graceofspades (Dave Ingraham) was third.
Trained by Jimmy Nickerson for owner Joseph Trice, Dudelookslikeafily scored her first win of the season, and a new record. She was bred in Maine by Lynn-Marie Plouffe and returned $12.60 to win.
Looking ahead, the Maine Sire Stakes has moved back to the fairs with a week of action at Farmington continuing with all the 2- and 3-year-old trotters on Wednesday (Sept. 23).
