Pompano Beach, FL — Someone’s impressive winning streak will come to an end on Wednesday at Pompano Park as the top state-bred filly, Amethyst, who has won her past eight starts, squares off against the best colt in the state, Paper Exchange, who has won his past five starts. These two are meeting for the first time in the $11,500 final of the Sandpiper Pacing Series at Pompano Park for three-year-olds. It’s the sixth race feature event on the program. Amethyst, who has beaten male rivals in the past, has won her last 19 starts at Pompano Park. She holds the fastest win record of the field, 1:52.4, the highest earnings this year, $35,545 and the best overall record with 12 wins in 14 starts. Wally Hennessey will drive the daughter of Miami Mogul for trainer Rod Lorenzo, who co-owns the three-year-old filly with the Keisers Oberman Stables of Boca Raton. Amethyst has been made the 4-5 morning line favorite. Paper Exchange has six wins in 11 starts this year for trainer/driver Bruce Ranger. The three-year-old gelding by Ditch Em was bred and is owned by Fred Monteleone of Pompano Beach, set his lifetime mark just two starts back in 1:53.2 and has earnings this year of $22,019. He is the second choice in the race at odds of 6-5. Amethyst and Paper Exchange are not the only horses on the card Wednesday with impressive winning streaks on the line. How about Yankee Frisbee in the 11th race trot? The three-year-old gelded son of Conway Hall, also trained and driven by Bruce Ranger, goes for his eighth straight win. He starts from the rail and is the 9-5 favorite. Only a costly break in his maiden start at Rockingham Park this summer has cost Yankee Frisbee an undefeated record. Fred Monteleone, who also owns Paper Exchange, owns Yankee Frisbee. Also on the Wednesday program is the $9,900 final of the Everglade Trotting Series for three-year-old Florida-breds in the first race. The early favorite is Wyatt from post two, who has won two of his last three starts in the series for driver Wally Hennessey and has the fastest win record (1:58.2) in the field. He will be taking on Sudden Speed (post one), who defeated Wyatt two starts back, along with the two top fillies, Dream On Avery (post three) and Cracker Sue (post six).
