Sophomore trotters head to Northfield for Ohio Sires Stakes

Northfield, OH — Two $55,000 divisions of 3-year-old male trotters will take to the MGM Northfield Park track Saturday night (June 10) in the second leg of the Ohio Sires Stakes.

In the first division, John Dutton is the early favorite at 9-5. Chris Page will drive the son of What The Hill for trainer Ron Burke. John Dutton has won five of seven races this year with a pair of third-place finishes, and has earned $48,100 for the ownership group of Burke Racing Stable, Knox Services, Johnny Yoder and RAS Racing. The second choice is Grand Revival at 5-2. Josh Sutton will drive the Creatine gelding for Deborah Swartz, who trains and co-owns with Zachary Henry. Grand Revival has hit the board in all five starts, winning four. He has earned $42,750 this year.

First-leg winners Jet Hill and Rumble Strips will square off in the second division. Jet Hill is the favorite at 5-2 while Rumble Strips is the third choice at 7-2.

Jet Hill is a perfect three-for-three this year with earnings of $60,500. Ronnie Wrenn Jr. will drive the son of What The Hill for trainer Edward Miller and Serenity Racing Stables. Rumble Strips, the 2022 Ohio 2-Year-Old Trotting Colt of the Year, has won two of three starts this year for trainer Mike Polhamus. Kayne Kauffman will drive the Long Tom colt, who has earned $39,500 this year for owners Constance Polhamus and Mary Beth Walters.

The Sires Stakes action is part a big card at MGM Northfield Park which includes the $200,000 Battle of Lake Erie and the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association Charity Night Race.

Nine Cleveland-area charities have been paired with a horse in the evening’s fourth race. The charity of the winning horse will receive a $10,000 donation from the OHHA. The second-place finisher will receive $5,000, third place will receive $3,000, and the other six charities will each receive $2,000 donations.

First race post time is 6 p.m.
