Washington, PA — Saturday’s (Aug. 15) card at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows was packed with sophomore Pennsylvania Sire Stakes trotting action. The filly division featured two $49,000 Stenographer divisions and three Stallion Series divisions, while the colts competed in two $49,000 Super Bowl divisions and two Stallion Series divisions.
Geologic and Yannick Gingras kicked off the day with a wire-to-wire effort in the first race of the card. Gingras had no intention of racing the Paul Kelly trainee anywhere but on the lead as they captured the first Super Bowl division. After a :26.4 opening quarter, the pair reached the half in :56.4 and three-quarters in 1:24.4 before finishing in :27.3. The son of Captain Corey stopped the clock in a career-best 1:52.1, the fastest division of the day. Geologic is owned by Paul Kelly Racing Stable, Go For Glory Stables LLC, Matthew Lamont and VIP Internet Stables LLC.
Minoan captured the other Super Bowl division courtesy of a perfect steer by Andrew McCarthy. McCarthy forwardly placed the gelded son of Bar Hopping from post six to the lead before surrendering the top spot to Overseer and Charlie Norris at the three-eighths marker. Minoan followed through fractions of :56.3 and 1:24.3 before pulling the pocket at the head of the stretch. A :27.3 final quarter produced a career-best 1:52 effort for trainer Noel Daley, who owns Minoan in partnership with Patricia Stables LLC, L.A. Express Stable LLC and Sjoeblom Racing Inc. Minoan now has four wins from 10 starts and earnings of more than $200,000 in 2026.

Shimmering Hanover turned in the fastest mile of the day with a stakes-record 1:51.3 performance in her Stenographer division. Yannick Gingras sent Shimmering Hanover toward the lead from the start, and after a long stretch through a :27.3 opening quarter, the pair cleared by the three-eighths pole and reached the half in :55.2. Heading toward the three-quarters, Shimmering Hanover was briefly challenged by pocket-sitter Ginger Tree Lex, but the daughter of Captain Corey used a 28-second final quarter to seal the victory for trainer Luc Blais. Shimmering Hanover is owned by Determination of Canada.

Little Road and Brady Brown went right down the road to win their Stenographer division in 1:52. Unhurried through the early going, Brown was able to get a comfortable 57-second opening half for Little Road. A :27.3 third quarter was followed by a :27.2 final quarter, and the daughter of Fordham Road picked up her sixth win of the year from 11 starts. Roger Hammer bred, owns and trains Little Road, who now has earnings of more than $100,000 this season.
Captain Jordan and Yannick Gingras went to the lead on their way to a lifetime-best 1:53.3 victory in the final Stallion Series division for colts. Captain Jordan now has two Stallion Series victories this season for trainer Scott Di Domenico and owners Joe Ferlando and Triple D Stables Inc.
The second Stallion Series division also produced a front-end winner. Mike Wilder quickly moved Captain Micah to the lead before the quarter and held off Emmett Hanover for a career-best 1:54.3 triumph. Trained by Travis Alexander for owner Gino Toscani, it was the first Stallion Series win for the son of Captain Corey.
I Take The Cake made it three-for-three in Stallion Series action by winning the fastest filly division in 1:53.2. Dave Palone got favorable fractions of :28, :57.1 and 1:25.1 to set up the four-length victory for the daughter of Captain Corey. I Take The Cake is trained by Blake McIntosh, who shares ownership with Hutt Racing.
Berry Good News was used early but held on late to earn her Stallion Series victory and a new lifetime mark of 1:54.1. The daughter of Greenshoe was driven by Dave Palone for trainer Nifty Norman and owners Melvin Hartman and David McDuffee.
Wendalyn Hanover and Tim Tetrick cleared prior to the half and held off Intisaar Mil to take the third Stallion Series filly division. Wendalyn Hanover is trained by Britney Dillon and owned by William Hartt. The daughter of Greenshoe trotted to a 1:54.2 victory.
Saturday’s top honors on the training side went to Rick Hercules with two wins, while Dave Palone led all drivers with four victories. Captain Corey proved to be the day’s top sire, with five offspring making their way to the winner’s circle.
Hollywood Casino at The Meadows will resume live racing on Wednesday, Aug. 19, with a first-race post time of 12:45 p.m.
