Tequila Talkin gets DQ win in Meadows top trot

Washington, PA — Tequila Talkin, the apparent place finisher, was awarded the victory when the horse that crossed the wire first, Swan Legacy, was disqualified for a pylon violation. It all happened in Wednesday’s (Nov. 15) $19,200 Open Handicap, the track’s top trot, at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows.

Swan Legacy stretched out Tequila Talkin before yielding to the pocket and kicked by him in the lightning lane. But the judges placed Swan Legacy last, ruling that he went inside three straight pylons, grounds for automatic disqualification. Joygo was promoted to second and Jeffery P to third.

Ronnie Wrenn, Jr. piloted Tequila Talkin, an 8-year-old Cantab Hall-Margarita Nights gelding who now has won $519,098 and 48 races in his career, for trainer Ron Burke and owners Burke Racing Stable and Weaver Bruscemi LLC. The winning time was 1:54.4.

Dave Palone collected four wins and Wrenn three on the 13-race card.

Live racing at The Meadows continues Thursday (Nov. 16) when the 13-race program features a pair of carryovers: $6,354.50 in the Early Pentafecta (race 4), $876.67 in the Pick 5 (race 9). First post is 12:45 p.m.
