Ubetterthink Think once again tops the mares at Pocono

by James Beviglia, for Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs

Wilkes-Barre, PA — Ubetterthink Think overcame the outside nine post to win the featured $22,000 Open Handicap Pace for fillies and mares at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs on Friday afternoon, April 11.

It was the second straight week that the mare from the barn of Mickey Burke beat the best mares on the grounds at Pocono, and she did it this week from the difficult post. She managed to make the lead from the outside by the quarter-mile mark, and was never passed with Greg Grismore in the bike.

A 3-1 third betting choice, Ubetterthink Think set opening fractions of :27.1, :56.3, and 1:24.3. Her biggest threat was Nanny Withafanny, who worked out a pocket trip and shot up the passing lane in the stretch. But Ubetterthink Think survived Nanny Withafanny’s final lunge to win by a head in 1:52.1. Pancleefandarpels was further back in third. The betting favorite, Cruzin Foralivin N, wasn’t a factor and finished eighth.

Ubetterthink Think is owned by Sylvia Burke, Frank Baldachino, Weaver Bruscemi, and Walter Haas, Jr. The 4-year-old mare was sired by Bettor’s Delight and now has earnings in excess of $184,000 for her career.
