Unborn Smiles, 28, dies

Hopewell, NJ — In 1998, the year Bluestone Farms was established, we purchased a filly (the first horse the farm would purchase) which we named Unborn Smiles. She was named for the last two words of a Lawrence Durrell poem.

A daughter of Westgate Crown-Princess Leebrook, she was a modest performer taking a mark at 2 of 2:01.2f and earning $60,650 lifetime.

She wasn’t much of a producer either. Her six foals earned a total of $67,485.

She had to be euthanized Wednesday (March 27) at 28 years of age, sparing her the pain of a severe and irreversible colic. She was a beloved mare who spent the last 26 years at Bluestone Farms.
