Will Bold Eagle now be flying?

After Bold Eagle finished a disappointing fourth in the first qualification race at Vincennes for the Prix d’Amerique, the winningest active French trotter will race again on Sunday (Dec. 9) in the second qualification race, the Prix du Bourbonnais.

For the first time ever, Bold Eagle will race without all four shoes. Normally he races only with shoes behind, but trainer Sebastian Guarato has decided to try something new by removing the front shoes.

Only 12 horses were entered in the Prix du Bourbonnais and just one is trained outside France, Uza Josselyn, a Danish registered mare owned and trained in Switzerland.

Among the 12 starters, two have already qualified for the Prix d’Amerique, Delia du Pommereux and Bird Parker, who finished second and third, respectively, in the first qualifier.

The three first finishers in the Prix du Bourbonnais will also qualify for a spot in the field for the Prix d’Amerique.
