Rivalries spice up Honesdale (Pa.) Fair
Two days of harness racing were held during the Wayne County Fair proper on Wednesday (Aug. 9) and Thursday (Aug. 10). The sulky stars of the short stay were two pairs of longtime friendly rivals, Sam Beegle and Roger Hammer of Bedford Sports Hall of Fame glory and brothers Todd and Tony Schadel.

On a warm, sunny Wednesday evening (Aug. 9) at the Indiana State Fair, Rockin Rusty established a new lifetime mark of 1:52 and provided his driver, Trace Tetrick, with his fourth win of the night in the 91st edition of the $51,929 Fox Stake for freshman pacing colts.

Trotters and pacers invaded the Greene County Fairgrounds in this southwest Pennsylvania town on Tuesday and Wednesday (Aug. 8 & 9), contesting over $84,000 in Pennsylvania Fair Sire Stakes, with the 2-year-olds going first and the sophomores featured in the windup card.
Racing held at Cuyahoga County Fair in Berea
Oh, the variety we saw on this perfect day for racing. Sixteen races held with 13 different sires being represented in the winner’s circle, as well as 12 different trainers and 11 different drivers getting their picture taken. Half of the 16 races were won wire-to-wire on Tuesday (Aug. 8) in Berea, Ohio.
Purses will be doubled for Signature Series races at Defiance County Fair
The Defiance County Fair at Hicksville, Ohio, has received some donations from various sources which will enable the fair to double the purses for its two Signature Series races. The races were originally advertised to have purses of $2,250 added, but they will now have purses of $4,500 added.
