The Pennsylvania fair circuit commenced a very busy week with Fair Sire Stakes action on Sunday (Aug. 10) and Monday (Aug. 11) at the Washington County Fairgrounds, known as Arden Downs during its Grand Circuit heyday, in southwestern Pennsylvania, not far down the road from The Meadows.

As the new week began, Maine’s harness racing fairground circuit transitioned from Topsham to Skowhegan, but despite the change in venue a couple of constants remain; a mare named Juneparker keeps winning races, and a driver named Kevin Switzer Jr. remains the hottest commodity in all of New England. 

The opening weekend of the Illinois State Fair Colt Stakes belonged to the father-son team of Erv and Marcus Miller, who once again showed their Springfield dominance. Erv sent out six winners during Friday’s (August 8) eliminations, all driven by Marcus, who closed the day with an impressive eight wins.

Driver Bruce Ranger provided the exclamation point to an exciting week of racing as the 171st meeting at the Topsham Fair came to a successful conclusion on Saturday (August 9) when the winner of 10,577 career races added three more top-tallies to his impressive credentials while also taking top honors in the annual $6500 Topsham Fair Open.

Maine’s freshmen filly pacers closed out the Topsham Fair on Saturday (Aug. 9) with two $11,000-plus divisions held before the regular card.

Topsham, ME – Driver Aaron Hall deftly transitioned from sickbed to multiple winner’s circle sessions on Thursday (Aug. 7) as one of Maine’s top-rated pilots celebrated a clean bill of health with a five-win performance at the Topsham Fair.
